I'm traveling to San Francisco next Monday (2/14) for the MS Windows 2000
Expo, staying until the following Sunday. I've never been to that town.
I'll be staying at a hotel near the Moscone center. If anyone has some
suggestions about where to go to listen to some good acoustic music while
I'm there please send me a private reply to mailto:John@Fortissimo.org.
Thanks!

[Alan sez: We usually don't do these "What's Up?" posts on the FM list, but based on all the blood, sweat, and tears that John has put into hosting this list and his enumerable other good works for the folk community. I felt that this was the least we could do for him. Meanwhile, I'll try to add a little content for the full list:
For those of you on the run and looking for good music when you travel, your first line of approach should always be Musi-Cal http://www.musi-cal.com You'll find links to Musi-Cal and other concert search engines at http://www.folkmusic.org/shows.html
Most of these events are publicized thru a national network of alternative newsweekly papers like the Boston Phoenix, Chicago Reader, LA Weekly, Village Voice, and Atlanta's Creative Loafing. For list of links to their sites visit:

You can also try searching the sites of the more mainstream press
http://dir.yahoo.com/News_and_Media/Newspapers/ and, of course,
http://www.newspapers.com/
If you are looking for some good Folk Radio on your trip, delve into Jeremy Butler's Folk Radio database http://www.tcf.ua.edu/ata/folkradio.html to see what's on the air in your vicinity.
Please email John directly if you have suggestions for him. I hope that this info will be of use to all of you travellers.]
