Dear fellow listers,
I want to alert you to two singer-songwriters who will be appearing at
Twiggs on Thursday, Feb 17th, at 8:30 pm. They are Eleni Kelakos from
Los Angeles, and Andrew McKnight from the Appalachian region of western
Virginia. This is the very first show that I am personally producing at
Twiggs, and my ability to produce future shows will depend on this
show's turnout. If there's a small crowd, I am history. If you are free
that night, and want to catch two performers who have exceptional
talents, please help me out and come to that show. Admission is $8.00,
and both Eleni and Drew will do separate 1-hour or longer sets. If you
could bring some friends, I would really appreciate it. My birthday is
on the 19th, so a big audience would be a great birthday present for me!
Twiggs is located at 4590 Park Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92116 -
Telephone 619-296-0616. For door-to-door driving directions please go to

Twiggs highlights page at http://twiggs.org/highlights.html or go to

A brief write-up follows:
According to Victory Review, "Pick your favorite poet or balladeer
and McKnight will equal them with an Appalachian soul." Andrew
McKnight resonates with listeners of all ages as he delivers great
original folk songs framed with engaging stories and humorous
anecdotes. From the self-deprecating humor of the bluesy, Hoagy
Carmichael-influenced Bad News to the Appalachian lament over
the death of a "Company Town" and hauntingly beautiful musings
on the Diary of Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings, Andrew1s
sensitive, insightful lyrics and wide-ranging 'mountain gumbo' ...a
surprisingly smooth blend of folk, blues, country and bluegrass,
according to the Norwich Bulletin, shine through a diversity of
stylistic lenses. Those talents are displayed on two critically
acclaimed recordings on the Falling Mountain Music label, his 1995
debut Traveler and the 1998 followup Where This River Runs,
coproduced with original Nitty Gritty Dirt Band member Les
Thompson, that have enjoyed folk and acoustic radio airplay around
the world. Sharing the billing with Andrew is a phenomenal new
talent, Eleni Kelakos, a veterern actress on and off Broadway, film
and TV, who is now devoting all of her full-time energies and
abundant talents to further developing her musical career. With a
hauntingly deep, soulful voice, Eleni probes and explores the
boundaries between love and lonliness, passion and estrangement,
and in the process, uncovers new truths about survival,
transformations, and the tenacity of the human spirit. Eleni's debut
CD, I Will Fly is a gem. If she does not move you to the deepest
levels of feeling and emotion, then you need to have a serious talk
with your mortician. This is a very special show that you will not
want to miss, for two highly extraordinary touring performers.
Cheers,
Joel
