My take on this exchange between seegar swanson and larry hoyt:
(by the way howdy Seegar, chris yeager up in boston here--)

Larry says the WAMMIES "help most artists establish initial credibility when
dealing with folks not familiar with those artists."

I've always thought it's a shame that in the absence of real criticism,
industry awards seem to be the ONLY way to "establish credibility" in this
art form, even though they are largely awarded to people to recognize
commercial success or popular appeal. The fact that someone has recieved an
award tells you nothing about their style, their originality or the depth of
their gifts.... or lack of same.
