I'm happy to report our first show in the Two Cats House Concerts Series was
a big success. Our living room was full of happy listeners (23 of them
paying customers at $10 apiece) who enjoyed two sets by Minnesota-based
singer-songwriter Peter Mayer. In the tradition of British folk clubs, we
had a handful of "singers from the floor" do a song each, including Peggy
Bertsch and Janne Henshaw.

Peter played the two morning services at the First Unitarian-Universalist
Church; six of those attending the house concert were introduced to his music
there. At the services, Peter played his tribute to Rosa Parks, and the
beautiful ballad, "Holy Now". The message of finding miracles in everyday
life is a thread running through many of Peter's songs. He balances the
spiritual messages with delightful rants against conspicuous consumption in
his songs "Brand New Harley" and "Waking Up From the American Dream". Adding
to that is his guitar work, featuring the alternative tunings of David Wilcox
and the string-slaps of Michael Hedges.

We can't wait for the next one: Sunday, March 26, 7pm, featuring Annie
Gallup, another guitar wizard backing up her poetry and wit. Louisville's
Dan Gediman, who joined Annie as a finalist in the Napa Valley Emerging
Songwriting Contest, will do a guest set. Then on April 2, we will feature
Margo Hennebach & Mark Saunders, husband & wife from Connecticut, doing a
special 4pm show, with opener Carla Ulbrich, writer of brilliant comic songs.
 Reserve a chair at 615-833-6248.

[Alan sez: House Concerts are a fantastic way to hear music and share it with your friends. If you love music (and what reader of this list doesn't?) You should think again about hosting your own house concert. It's not hard and it's sooooooo much fun.
