Hi All,

On Sunday, March 26th (7:30PM), Colum Sands will be returning to perform a
house concert for the second time at my house in Berkeley. As those who
were at his concert last year can attest to, Colum is an absolutely
*brilliant* singer/songwriter and storyteller. He's got 3 solo albums to
his name, but he's been performing as a member of Ireland's renowned Sands
Family for many years. It's absolutely amazing to get him back for another
house concert!

In the event that you can't make my house concert, want to see Colum more
than once, or have friends in other parts of the Bay Area, Colum has
several other concerts in the area. I don't have full details, but you can
get those by e-mailing the folks I've indicated: Santa Cruz (3/22 - e-mail
CELTSOC@aol.com), Davis (3/23 - e-mail wjwagman@ucdavis.edu), Monterey
(3/24 - e-mail jefmry@cruzio.com), and Palo Alto (3/25 - e-mail
eleanor@leland.Stanford.EDU). Please spread the word! In the event that
you don't live in Northern California, Colum's CDs are available through
Waterbug.

For reservations & directions to Colum's concert at my house,
         e-mail reservations@sgreenberg.org
         or call me at 510-644-2135.

Further information (including a PDF version of the flier) can also be
obtained from:
	http://www.sgreenberg.org/concerts.htm

Seats are also still available for all other concerts, including Eileen
McGann with David K (4/16).

A text copy of the flyer for Colum's Berkeley house concert is attached.

Thanks for your continued support!

		COLUM SANDS,
	     renowned singer-songwriter
		from Ireland,
	       will be performing at a
		House Concert
		in BERKELEY
	     on Sunday, March 26th
		   at 7:30PM

One of Ireland's most brilliant singer/songwriters & storytellers, and
member of the internationally renowned Sands Family, returns on his 2nd
West Coast trip!

Colum Sands is one of the most remarkable singer/songwriters in Ireland
today. His songs have been performed by some of the best known folk
performers on both sides of the Atlantic, including June Tabor, Roy Bailey,
Andy Irvine, Maddy Prior, Tommy Makem, Mick Hanley, Rosemary Woods, Charlie
King, Andrew Calhoun, Enda Kenny, and many others. His own performances
reflect his wonderful storytelling ability, as well as his incredible
musicianship. Over the past 25 years, he has appeared solo and as a member
of the internationally renowned Sands Family in 26 countries! Growing up in
a family of musicians in one of Ireland's last great ceili houses near
Mayobridge in County Down, Colum learned to play guitar, concertina and,
like his father and grandfather before him, the fiddle.

With the release of his first solo album, "Unapproved Road" in 1981, Colum
established his reputation as a great songwriter, building upon the folk
tradition. Many of his compositions are now regarded as classics. His
second album, "The March Ditch" was the subject of a special BBC
documentary and songs like the title track and "The Last House in Our
Street" continue to reach hearts and minds across political and religious
divides all over the world. His third album, released in 1996, continues to
receive numerous accolades and to become a classic like the other two. In
between performances, Colum hosts a popular BBC Radio Ulster show -"Folkclub".
-----------------------
"Colum Sands has to be the odds on favourite for the 'Tom Paxton of
Ireland' award. Both are consummate folk singers, consistently giving us a
body of accessible, singable, deceptively simple songs. Each word is
crafted and carved into memorable facets, reflecting the wit and wisdom of
their authors." --- Andy Ryan, Irish Music Magazine

"...Colum's gift is of breaking down cultural barriers through choice words
and eloquent music." --- John O Regan, Rock 'n' Reel Magazine

"A natural witty storyteller, Colum charmed the audience with his lively
and evocative melodies, colloquial lyrics and gentle humourous tales of
everyday life... Not only that, but the man has a wonderful voice and is
also no mean guitar picker..." --- Jim Brough, Folk on Tap Magazine
