I found this review while lurking on another e-list. I was pleased to
see that Dave's getting the bravos that he deserves for this great
new work. Jennifer

Hi folks,
Last Saturday, Barb and I decided on very short notice that we would
make the two hour drive up to Davis, California to attend Dave
Nachmanoff's concert at the Palms Playhouse. (We listened to DITC on
the way!) This was a special event in two ways: it was an album
release party for Dave's new CD, and Dave was playing with a band.
We've seen Dave a few times as a solo, but never fronting a band
before, and it was great fun. Dave is excellent as a solo performer,
but as his skill in working as an accompanist for Al attests, he's
also a great instrumental soloist, and he could stretch out a bit mor
in the regard with backup.
Dave's new CD is called "Certain Distance", and it is quantum leap
for him in every way. It is easily his best batch of songs,
surpassing an already high standard, and also the best and most
varied recording he has made to date. Dave & band performed
everything from the album save for an instrumental intro to one song,
and it was tremendous fun to hear all of the songs again on our drive
home. After a few listens, my favorites are the title track and "Real
Good Thing," a celebration of the fact that Dave and his wife have
recently passed their tenth anniversary. And let's not forget "The
Loyalist," the song Dave wrote with help from Al, who also sings on
the track. Al sings a sort of countermelody, a separate vocal line
running concurrent to the lead during the latter part of the song,
and it really is tremendously effective. Al completists, here's one
you have to get!
Dave's skill as a lyricist and observer of humanity have gotten
better and better with each of his recordings, and anyone on this
list who had not yet checked out Dave's work really should do
themselves a favor and order a copy of "Certain Distance" from Dave
website ASAP!
